A
series of interactive workshops for children is
planned for Wednesdays and Saturdays from
2-4pm
and by appointment through the duration of the exhibit,
where participants will learn from hands-on activities, such
as painting and dressing a doll, and creating a piņata.

Three types of workshops are planned for the duration of
Mexico: Festival of Toys:
Piņata-making: The Piņata originated in China but was
introduced to the New World by missionaries. In
Mexico, they are used for celebrations such as Christmas and
birthdays, and are usually stuffed with fruit and candy.
Workshop participants will make traditional
earthenware
bowl (cantaro de barro) Piņatas and cut paper in all the
colors.
Cloth doll-dressing: Cloth dolls are a fixture of
rural Mexican comminutes. Children and families will be able
to dress their own doll with distinctive traditional Mexican
attire.
Corn sack doll-making:
Corn sack dolls are a tradition throughout Mexico.
Participants will make dolls from scratch with this most
natural of materials.
