Was born in
Jacksonville, AL in 1978. She received a BA in Studio Art from the Jacksonville State University,
and a MFA in Studio Art/ Installation from the
Florida State University, Tallahassee, FL in 1990. Braswell has had solo
exhibitions at the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans, LA. in 1992
the Oak Ridge Art Center / Museum of Fine Arts; Oak Ridge, TN and the
Limner Gallery, in New York in 1993, Raw Space, A.R.C. Gallery in Chicago
in 1996 and recently at the Gallery One 2 One. Paula Braswell has participated
in group shows mainly throughout the East coast of the United States and
in Ontario, Canada where she recently took part in the exhibit Lamentable
Expedients";4th Dimension; The Persona Propeller Curated Show at Propeller
Gallery in Toronto; and Paula Braswell & Irene Packer, "Installations
& Paintings at the Propeller Center for the Visual Arts also in Toronto.
Braswell
has also exhibited her work at the Museum of Fine Art, Tallahassee Florida
and the River Gallery in Toronto, Canada in 1998; The Art Museum of the
Americas in Washington DC in 1997, the Museurn of Art in Austin TX and
the National Juried Exhibition of the Women's Caucus for Art, Chinese
Culture Institute, Boston, MA in 1996.
Braswell's
awards include fellowships and grants from the Ontario Arts Council, Visual
Arts, Who's Who in the World, Millennium edition of Marquis Who's Who,
an honorable mention at the, Combined Talents exhibit of The Florida State
University Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee, FL in 1995, a Regional Artists
Projects Grant funded through the National Endowment for the Arts, Inter-Arts
Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation in 1991; and a teaching fellowship
from the Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL in 1990 among others.
Braswell's work has been reviewed in different publications and the artist
has been interviewed for the Arts & Entertainment section of the Toronto
Star, CH RY, York University Radio Station, CIUT, University of Toronto
Radio Station and Global TV Video an interview related to the exhibit
"Landscapes: An Exhibition of Sculpture" at the Art Museum of the Americas
in Washington, DC.
