Born
in La Plata , Argentina, Alicia Creus began her artistic career as a poet,
pursuing a secondary activity, sculpture. In 1977 she left Argentina, which
was governed by a military dictatorship, and moved to New York City, where
she began to devote more attention to sculpture and less to writing. Her
desire to explore color inspired Creus to study painting at the New York
Studio School in Greenwich Village. Her works are in numerous public and
private collections.
She has exhibited
nationally and internationally since1983. Some of her solo shows have
been, 1998: "They Come and They Go" Harveford College, PA. "Images of
Childhood", and "Velasquez", Duke University Museum of Art, Durham, NC.
1997: "The Veiled Mirrors", El Museo del Barrio, New York City, NY. 1995:
Centro Cultural Recoleta, Argentina. 1990: Evelyn Bengston Gallery, Greensboro,
NC. Three person show at the Americas Society in New York. Her works can
be found in the following public collections: Bryn Mawr College, Bryn
Mawr, PA; Duke University Museum of Art, Durham, NC; El Museo del Barrio,
New York City, NY; Haverford College, Haverford, PA; Jackson Library,
