An exhibit featuring the works of Gervasio Sánchez

ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
The opening of Vidas Minadas: Diez Años (Mined Lives: Ten Years) at The Art Museum of the Americas assembles the work that Sánchez began in 1995. The exhibition’s title comes from the fact that, more than a decade after the United Nations’ Ottawa Treaty banned all anti‐personnel landmines (originally ratified by 40 countries, that number that has since grown to 156), 40 countries still refuse to sign it. This exhibition tells stories of survivors such as Sofia Elface Fumo, who stepped on a mine while collecting firewood with her sister when she was just eleven. This exhibition is made possible by the generous support of the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores España, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Instituto Cervantes, DKV Seguros, Intermón Oxfam, Manos Unidas, and Doctors Without Borders.
