The OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas presents Punctured Landscape in conjunction with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the OAS, and Canada Council for the Arts. Curated by Kegan McFadden, this exhibition is part of OAS celebrations of the 150th anniversary of Canada’s confederation. Punctured Landscape illustrates how the land that is Canada, a witness to colonization and violence of various kinds, perseveres. The artworks annotate the struggles present along the journey. Here, certain artworks stand in for larger social inequities and moments of unrest amid the landscape. These works, and the moments in the collective, living memory of Canadians that they represent, are to be understood as punctures. The 17 artworks brought together here ask the viewer to (re)consider their interpretation of Canada’s history, legacy, and possible outcomes for the future.
