The OAS Program for the Universalization of Civil Identity in the Americas, Department of Effective Public Management (PUICA/DGPE), and the OAS Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) of the OAS Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (SHA), announce As We Are, an exhibition of work by contemporary trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse artists of the Americas. This juried exhibition showcases just a small sampling of the wide range of aesthetic, content, and lived experiences of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse artists of OAS member and observer countries.

This exhibition aims to strengthen and increase the visibility of the social, economic, cultural, civil, and political rights of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in OAS Member States. Through this regional project, PUICA/DGPE seeks to increase knowledge of inter-American and international human rights standards on the right to gender identity and expression and its implications for civil registration and identification processes, to encourage fair and humane practices, to disseminate individual stories, and to make recommendations to the civil registries of the OAS Member States so that they are better equipped to facilitate changes to their internal gender identity recognition policies, processes, and procedures.

List of artists:
Cecilia Campos Arevalo (Chile)
Yatsil Malinalli (Mexico)
Laura Victoria Martes (Mexico)
Laya Monarez (United States - Mestizo Tepehuan/Terahumaran)
Nonardo Perea (Cuba)
Christian Pérez Vega (Panama)
Brooklyn Rando (Italy)
Rio Paraná (Duen Sacchi and Mag De Santo) (Argentina)
Kay Wrenn (United States)

The AMA seeks to provide a platform to make these issues more visible through art, and promote the work carried out by PUICA/DGPE in this area.
